Instructions

Butter both sides of the bread. Using a glass or cookie cutter, cut out a hole from the center of the bread slice. Place the hole and the bread-with-a-hole in a cast iron pan on medium heat. Break an egg and drop it into the hole. Season with salt and pepper. When the egg is just set, after about 2 minutes, flip the bread slice and the hole. Add the optional ham and cheese and cook the other side for another 2 minutes and serve.
